The Barking Ginger Cocktail: Bourbon Sour With a Twist

Two bourbon sour "Barking Ginger" cocktails

I love a whisky or bourbon sour and so I created this cocktail, inspired by my love of warm and spicy ginger root – and my beloved Nova Scotia Ducktoller. And like my pup, this cocktail has a spicy bark but no bite.

Enjoy!

The Barking Ginger Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients:

1.5 oz bourbon
0.75 oz ginger simple syrup*
1 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
Brandied cherries (My go-to: Luxardo Maraschino Cherries)

Method:

Assemble all ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake until icy cold. Pour into old-fashioned glass with one big chunk of ice or into a cocktail coupe. Garnish with a skewer of brandied cherries.

*To make Ginger Simple Syrup: Peel and slice 1.5″ chunk of ginger root. Add ginger to a pot with 1 cup of white sugar and 1 cup of water. Bring to a boil, stirring so all sugar is dissolved. Turn down and simmer for about 10-15 minutes. Turn off heat, cover and let steep for at least 30 minutes. Note: the longer you steep the syrup the more gingery it will be. Let cool and use in above cocktail or refrigerate until use.
